What is the Association between the Microbiome and Cognition? An Umbrella Review
This project plans to conduct an umbrella review — that means it will systematically collect and analyze the results of multiple existing systematic reviews — to understand the relationship between the microbiome (the community of microbes in the human body) and cognition (how the brain thinks and functions). The researchers will look across a wide range of conditions where cognitive problems occur (like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, long-COVID “brain fog,” and others) and see how changes in the microbiome are linked with cognitive outcomes. They will also examine what microbiome-targeted or related interventions have been studied and how they might influence cognition, aiming to identify consistent patterns across different populations and conditions.
