Intermittent Fasting and Chronic Pain: A Systematic Review of Randomized, Controlled Trials

This project is a systematic review of randomized, controlled trials examining a fasting intervention for individuals with chronic pain. The interventions can include 1) time-restricted eating; 2) alternative day fasting (one day of ad libitum eating followed by one day of fasting or consumption of minimal calories; or 2) 5:2 diet. We will look at the impact of fasting compared to any type of comparison (control) intervention on pain outcomes, including pain intensity, pain duration, pain interference, pain-related disability, and activity limitations.
