The Cumulative Incidence of Post-Traumatic Epilepsy After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: A Systematic Review
This project is a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine how often people develop post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE) — unprovoked seizures that begin more than seven days after injury — following a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) such as a concussion, and how long it typically takes for those seizures to start. To do this, the team will comprehensively search published and gray literature, assess the quality of studies, and combine both study-level and individual participant data to estimate the cumulative incidence and the timing (“latency”) of PTE after mTBI. The goal is to provide more precise data on when PTE occurs, which could help clinicians improve monitoring, early detection, and tailored care for people after concussions.
